The Women of Luke 8 Day 20

The Divine Jesus had whatever resources He needed at his disposal. However, as a human on earth, Jesus humbled Himself and allowed others to provide resources helping Him and His ministry. As an aside, Luke is the only source in Scripture that mentions these women of means supporting the ministry of Christ.

When I was in elementary school, one of my biggest challenges was having the confidence and gumption to ask for help. Due to my visual disability, my parents had special IEP meetings during my time in school. What did my parents hear the most in those early years of meetings? “You have to teach Abbie how to ask for help?” I was afraid to interrupt my teachers or be an inconvenience.

There are several different reasons we do not easily accept help or even ask for it when we know we need it.

We do not want to be an inconvenience. We are timid. We do not want to admit that we cannot do something.

We are afraid to entrust someone else with the responsibility.

We do not think someone else can do it as well as we would do it. However, when we accept the resources of others we bless them. By allowing others to help us, we give them a sense of empowerment of their own callings to serve God.
