The Women of Luke 8 Day 30

Music has always played a pivotal role in my life. I love it in all forms, and God has used all types of music in all types of circumstances to shape and mold me into the woman I am today. When I was just a preschooler, you could find me standing in the living room belting out lyrics to Whitney Houston songs using a vacuum cleaner or hairbrush as a microphone. I was just being the girl God designed me to be! God designed you with certain talents, passions, joys, loves, strengths, weaknesses, convictions, connections, and a calling to use all that you are, every resource you have to follow after Him. At age four, I sang in church for the very first time. I sang “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood in a church variety show. Yet, when I got up on the stage to have my musical moment something odd happened. Someone in the congregation kept singing back at me! Eventually, I stopped singing, because if someone else was going to sing the song then I did not need to sing as well! Isn’t that just how we are though sometimes. We are all set to serve God in a way we feel He is leading us, and we back off. We may decide someone else can do it better than us. We may hear voices echoing back at us telling us it is not a good idea, or we are not the right person for the job. It may just seem too hard to put yourself out there, stretch yourself, and follow where God is leading you to use your resources. In my musical moment, the voice I heard coming back at me was my own echoing back in the microphone. How often it is our own voices that pull us off the path. Yet the women in Luke 8 were in it for the long haul. They followed Christ all the way to the crucifixion, resurrection, and the events that followed. As we conclude our study today, I want to encourage you to strive to follow the music God has placed on your heart for the long haul. Praising God, loving God, following God, listening to God, surrendering to God, and serving God for the long haul! This is not an easy challenge. Sometimes the melodies get challenging. However, God will show you the right dance steps. Journeying with God for the long haul is a daily rhythm we breathe in and out with each situation we encounter in our lives. It is a rhythm that contains the notes of God’s Word, the rests of our prayers, and the constant beat of His presence always with us. Let us sing out! Let us be in it with Christ for the long haul!

Let us be Luke 8 women!
