Hostess with the mostest

I consider myself the hostess with the mostest….i.e. I eat the “mostest” hostess powdered donuts.

The other morning I walked into the kitchen thinking. I am going to eat healthy today. Than, I saw the sweet hostess donuts my sweet husband bought me at the grocery store! Ok. sooo I’ll eat healthy tomorrow.

The numbers person in me even knows how many donuts I can eat to have an even amount for breakfast each morning until the whole bag is complete. That’s right, I counted. I know that if I eat four donuts each day until the bag is empty it will work out evenly, and my belly will be full and happy from all that goodness!

This worked GREAT for me until our daughter grew old enough to want some donuts herself. Now, I have to share. Unlike for myself, I make sure my daughter eats a healthy breakfast. However, now if she clears her plate and there are donuts in the kitchen, I will model the importance of sharing and let her have one. I let go of my perfect “4 a day” plan and surrender a donut. It is not always easy though. 😉

This surrendering also applies in our walk with God. We have our own carefully calculated and crafted plans of how we are going to enjoy that bag of donuts we call life. However, maybe its time we listen to the real hostess. Maybe we need to do a better job surrendering our plans to God, surrendering some of our precious donuts of plans, dreams, schedules, to do’s, and desires.

In the end, I think it may just taste a little bit sweeter to do it that way after all, and I suspect God has some extra donuts in the bag for us when we clear our plates for His will, plans, dreams, and desires for us!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11
