Giving

This is the time of year when we hear a lot about giving. As we begin to look to a new year, I encourage you to spend some time reflecting on some giving goals for yourself. If we do not plan where we will spend our time, attention, and other resources, we will end up wasting these precious treasures.

So let’s do some brainstorming together. How will you spend your time this year? What are some things you often do that you feel are time wasters, and how can you intentionally decrease the amount of time you spend on them? Pray about who God is calling you to give your time to this year. -A church member who needs help in a ministry -A co-worker who needs a friend -A skill God is leading you to take the time to develop -Someone in your own household you need to spend more time with in the days ahead. What has your attention? Do you really stop and listen to the right voices? Who has influence over your life? Are you focusing your attention on the right things? Are you giving your attention to the voice of God whispering truth to you? Are you paying attention to the needs around you, and seeking where you can be of assistance? Are you allowing the ways of the world to steal your attention away from that which is Truth. Make sure you are paying attention to the right voices, the right influence the right people, and the right things. Finally, what about your resources? Where does your money go each month? If you are not entirely sure try tracking it down to the penny. You may be amazed of where your money is actually going. Do you have WAY TOO MANY dishes, mugs, books, shoes, articles of clothing? Can you pass some things along to those with less? Can you give to a new (or old) ministry cause or nonprofit organization this year to help accomplish a goal of an organization in your area? What can you give from your resources? As you prepare to begin a new year, make sure you are not throwing your resources in the trash. Take the opportunity to give in various ways, shapes, and forms all the while seeking God’s guidance in this matter. Let God give you wisdom on where and how to give and respond!

"And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:8)
