Recently, I made the commitment to drink 64 ounces of water a day. The one thing you have to understand is that the concept of drinking water is incredibly challenging for me. Thanks to my mother, I inherited a lack of desire to hydrate throughout the day. Knowing how important water is to our bodies, I decided to make the effort to drink it, even though this is a big challenge for me. When I started this mission for myself, I thought it would be good to properly pace myself throughout the day, so I was not stuck drinking 55 ounces of my 64 ounces of water before bed. I was fortunate enough to find a water bottle that helped do this. It shows how much water I need each hour to complete my daily water intake by 7p.m. The other bonus of this water bottle? There are encouraging messages listed under every hour. Messages that include “get started,” “Keep Chugging,” and “Remember your goal.”
In John 4 Christ shares with the woman at the well the following,
“but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.”
John 4:14
Christ shares in Scripture that He is our never-ending spiritual thirst quencher. If we continuously seek out the living water Christ has to offer us we will be blessed with the gift of eternal life. We will find meaning…direction…purpose. We will experience true love and grace gushing up inside us. I don’t know about you, but this is the water I want to be drinking, and one can never have too much of it. Let us continue to seek out, study, cry out to, cling to Christ throughout the day each and every day letting His living water run throughout our bodies, into our bones and veins, quenching our thirst and filling us up with His gifts, values, and nourishment.
Get Started: Remember to invite Christ into each day. Start your day with a prayer inviting Christ to be a part of your day and to guide you throughout the day.
Remember your goal: As you strive to follow God, take time throughout the day to explore how God would have you live through prayer and Scripture.
Keep Chugging: Throughout each day we will no doubt encounter challenges. However, we must not give in to the ways of the world. Cling to Scripture, and keep going. Don’t give up: In those moments in your day when you feel parched and completely depleted, moments when you feel weak and alone, seek out the encouragement and promises of Scripture. Reach out to another Christian on this faith journey for encouragement along the way. Remember God is always with you. Lean on that living water in the weakest of moments.
Almost there: As you refresh yourself in the living water, don’t forget to notice all the ways that Christ seeps through in your life, the times you see Him working, those quiet moments when you hear His voice whispering in your ear, that person who says just what you need to hear, that Scripture that leaps off the page into your heart.
You did it! As we go throughout each and every day letting God seep into every aspect of our day may we be replenished by the living water. As the living water gushes up from inside us springing out into the world around us, may we take delight in emulating Christ to others. Finally, may we take a moment to look around and drink in all the beauty and blessings from God growing up all around us.
