The Women of Luke 8 Day 17

“Soon afterwards he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.”

Luke 8:1-3

Several years ago, I attended a conference for Christian leaders. At dinnertime, I used my favorite dinnertime trick when I am at a conference. As an introvert, this is a trick I use to force myself to meet new people. I sat down at a completely empty table in the middle of the room. I waited to see who would join me for dinner. I anticipated the conversations you often have when you meet someone new. What do you do? Tell me about your family? What break out sessions are you going to attend later?

I waited at the large round empty table preparing my conversation pieces for the seven other people that could fill the empty chairs joining me for dinner.

However, no one filled any chairs at my table.

I sat through the dinner hour, at a conference for Christian leaders, eating all alone. Had I become invisible???

Have you ever felt invisible?

Women during the time of Luke 8 were basically invisible. They did not really have a voice in their society. They played their roles behind the scenes, and they were viewed as property to be owned. Yet, the love of Jesus changed the women in our Scripture. Not only did they follow after Jesus, most likely becoming better people, but these women were a visible and necessary force in the Jesus movement.

Remember, to Jesus, you are always visible. To Jesus, you are necessary.

Jesus ALWAYS sees you. Remember this today.

Christ sees you, and Christ hears your voice no matter how weak or strong it calls out.

You too play a vital role in the ministry of Christ.
