The Women of Luke 8 Day 11

Today we will take a look at the only words Scripture preserves from Mary Magdalene.

Take a moment and read John 20:1-18

Don’t worry, I will happily pause here and wait while you soak in the rich and wonderful Word of God.

Luke 8 informs us that Jesus healed Mary Magdalene of seven evil spirits. It was believed she had a severe emotional disorder. Imagine how her healing encounter with Jesus changed her life.

How has Jesus changed your life?

You can imagine her devastation when Mary Magdalene, at this moment in Scripture, cannot locate where her Lord’s body is located.

“They have taken the Lord…we do not know where they have laid him.”

Even on our own journey after we attach ourselves to Christ and experience His healing power and great love in our hearts, we have moments where Christ seems to be missing. There are times when in our challenges, moments of confusion, whirlwinds of uncertainty, Christ seems to be missing. Where is the Lord we ask ourselves? Can you think of a moment where you experienced this in your own life?

Yet, all along the Lord is there whispering to your heart, “Why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?”

Oh the joy Mary Magdalene expresses when she realizes Christ is still with her!

The passion, excitement, and perseverance Mary Magdalene demonstrates as she shares the news, “I have seen the Lord.”

Mary Magdalene is a very prominent figure in Scripture. It was not because of her youth or beauty (although she may have been blessed with these as well), but Mary Magdalene exhibited a grateful devotion to Christ and zeal in serving Him.

Today, may you remember the hope you have in Christ, and may you spread that hope into the world with passion!
