There are many outstanding Scriptures in the Bible that reference the word love. However, for me, the one that stands out above the rest is not the most popular or most referenced of Scriptures. Even so, it is my favorite Bible verse and depiction of God's love for us.
Zephaniah 3:17 reads, "The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing."
To me, this Scripture fully encompasses what it looks like to be loved by God. The Scripture conveys how it feels to experience and embrace the never-ending love of the Lord.
First, it is always with you. God is always in our midst. Sometimes it is more evident than others, but even when we do not feel His presence, the Lord IS with us. Next, God's love is mighty! The Lord is a mighty warrior fighting for you as you battle the ins and outs of daily life. The Lord is a mighty warrior fighting with you against your temptations and weaknesses. The Lord is mighty and has a perfect plan for you. Allow the Lord's mighty love to work and move through the joys and pitfalls of life. Put your trust in the mighty loving arms of God.
The Lord delights in you! Yes, you! When God sees you, His heart flutters with delight! His toes curl, and I suspect He wants to dance for joy in heaven at the very thought of you using your gifts and talents according to His purpose and ways. I bet God sees you laugh and grows a big smile on His face. When you finish a big project either at work or at home, I bet God grins with delight and says, "That's my girl!" God takes great delight in YOU.
God quiets your heart with His love. When you are hurt, frazzled, anxious, confused, or just feel lost, God is there to wrap you up in His arms and quiet your soul with the never-ending love and peace you can only find in the Lord.
Finally, God rejoices over you with song. God created you, and lovingly placed a melody in your heart for all that He designed your life to be. No doubt as you go through life following the melody of the song God gave to you, the Lord rejoices over you with some more singing.
Boy are you loved sweet one. You are loved with a gracious, never-ending, delightful, almighty love. of the Lord.
Delight in it! Trust in it! Get wrapped up in it! And may your own heart flutter with a bit of delight!
